When is it OK to be certain?
We are certain about some things, for example that Paris is the capital of France. We are uncertain about other things, for example whether the stock market will go up or down next week. And sometimes we are almost certain, for example that no big asteroid will hit the Earth next year.
When, if ever, should we be certain? Some philosophers say never – but they say say so for different reasons. Others have a cunning argument, that we can be certain when the alternative would be to be hopelessly confused.
Join former Cambridge philosopher Richard Baron, and reach your own views about who, if anyone, is right.
